BLUR & OASIS – CHEESY POP

Britpop legends collaborate on dairy product – NO REALLY

Oasis and Blur - the two bands that spent most of the 1990s feuding and battling for chart position - are now in the 21st century putting their differences behind them and working together. Not however in a quest for musical excellence but to make cheese.

Before you ask I haven't been helping myself to Liam's special cakes – I promise this is true. Apparently Blur bass player Alex James, himself a part time dairy farmer, has persuaded band mate Damon Albarn to join forces with Liam and Noel (the original chemical brothers) to make a commemorative round of Stilton.

In an interview with a national UK tabloid, a source close to Mr James said, "Damon and Alex have always been enthusiastic about cheese. But it wasn't until recently that Alex discovered Liam and Noel shared their obsession. So he had the master plan of creating something constructive through the medium of cheese, which would mark their maturity."

I'm sorry but while the word maturity may fit into a sentence that contains the word cheese, maturity is not one you would automatically associate with Liam and Noel.

The Britpop Cheese Collective plan to serve the tasty treat at next months Brit Awards as an alternative to the sweet sugary desserts on offer at the ceremony. Liam is obviously concerned that the stars of the evening should maintain a good nutritional balance. After all you need to be careful about the kind of things you put into your body don’t you.

The boys should remember that although Stilton is a crumbly cheese that can easily be sliced with a credit card – it does make a hell of a mess on a glass topped table.
